NEW YORK - Joe DioGuardi released the following statement after the election results were made final tonight:

“I will continue the fight in the private sector to create greater fiscal responsibility and public accountability in Washington. We cannot continue to spend money we don’t have and borrow from countries who do not share our values. We cannot continue to bankrupt taxpayers, overburden job creators or jeopardize the American dream. We cannot continue to enact legislation that pushes our economy towards the brink, puts our children into debt, or limits our potential and that of America.

“We, as citizens, must work to end the destructive policies that have emerged from Washington. Our country cannot continue to prosper without reform, and if our representatives in Washington, Democrat or Republican, are not willing to protect our interests, we must move into action as private citizens.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey against the status quo. We have achieved much in spreading the message about Washington’s out-of-control spending with New York voters. Thank you.”

NEW YORK – Joe DioGuardi, Conservative and Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, today encouraged New Yorkers to get out the vote during a visit to Staten Island and Long Island.

“Democracy relies on the participation of informed citizens,” said DioGuardi. ”The American experiment with democracy continues to set a shining example to the world. Too often though, our elected officials forget that their power and responsibilities come from the consent of the people. Sen. Gillibrand has joined Washington elites and jeopardized the American dream. This November, Election Day is the time to exercise your right to fight against a government that is spending money we don’t have, a government that is putting our children into debt, a government that is bankrupting this nation and jeopardizing the American dream.”

The author of “Unaccountable Congress: It Doesn’t Add Up” and a Certified Public Accountant, DioGuardi is an advocate of fiscal responsibility and federal accountability. Throughout the campaign, DioGuardi has emphasized that the government is spending money we don’t have and borrowing from countries who don’t share our values.

FACT: Gillibrand is bankrupting the American dream. During her time in office, she voted to raise the debt limit five times. Moreover, since she joined Congress, the debt has increased by 60 percent.

–

Comment from Tom Kise, People for DioGuardi spokesperson:

“Gillibrand is another vote for big-spending, job-killing policies. She has voted to raise the debt ceiling five times and thereby has endorsed Washington’s frivolous spending habits and jeopardized the American dream. Another two years with Gillibrand would be another two years of costly policymaking in Washington. She isn’t going to balance the budget, she is going to force America further into the red.”

–

Evidence:

In May 2007, Gillibrand Voted To Increase The Public Debt Limit From $8.965 Trillion To $9.815 Trillion. (S. Con.
In July 2008, Gillibrand Voted For Legislation That Bailed Out Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac And Increased The Public Debt Limit From $9.815 Trillion To $10.615 Trillion. (H.R. 3221, Roll Call Vote #519, Passed 272-152, 7/23/08, Gillibrand Voted Yea, http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll519.xml ; Became Public Law No: 110-289 On 7/30/08)

In December 2009, Gillibrand Voted To Increase The Public Debt Limit From $12.104 Trillion To $12.394 Trillion To Finance The Democrats’ Health Care Bill. (H.R. 4314, Roll Call Vote #397: Passed: 60 – 39, 12/24/09, Gillibrand Voted Yea; http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00397; Signed Into Law On 12/28/09)

The Public Debt Limit Has Increased By $5.329 Trillion During Gillibrand’s Time In Congress, An Increase Of Nearly 60%:

NEW YORK – Joe DioGuardi, Conservative and Republican Party nominee for the U.S. Senate, today launched a new web ad http://bit.ly/9qVrzZ that target’s Gillibrand’s work for Big Tobacco, in which she tried to conceal the fact that nicotine was addictive and tobacco products can cause cancer.

“Gillibrand has spent her career avoiding transparency,” said DioGuardi. ”While I was working to reveal genocide in the Balkans, Gillibrand was trying to conceal the fact that tobacco causes cancer. Even a brief look at her record will tell you she has been committed to concealing the truth in order to get ahead. How can she claim to support open leadership when she has been a champion of disguise? Gillibrand tells voters she promotes transparency, but that is clearly just another talking point she’s using to try to get elected.”

While working on the Philip Morris account, Gillibrand was tasked with concealing the research conducted in the company’s secret lab in Germany. More specifically, she was charged with hiding the fact that nicotine was addictive and tobacco caused cancer. Today, approximately 25,000 New Yorkers die from cancer-related diseases.

A full transcript of the television ad can be found below or a video of the ad can be found by clickinghere.

TRANSCRIPT

ANNOUNCER:Tobacco companies lied to us.

VIDEO OF TOBACCO EXECUTIVES TESTIMONY ON APRIL 14, 1994:”I believe that nicotine is not addictive.”

ANNOUNCER:They hurt our kids to make a quick buck. And who helped them do it? Kirsten Gillibrand. She says…

VIDEO COLLAGE:Transparency. Transparency. Transparency.

ANNOUNCER:Is her…

GILLIBRAND VIDEO:Top priority.

ANNOUNCER:But she lies. She worked for big tobacco. Shielded documents from disclosure and covered it up. Gillibrand thinks this is transparent. Do you?

JOE DIOGUARDI:I’m Joe DioGuardi and I approve this message.

The Cost of Gillibrand’s Silence: $41,700

Background:

While many New Yorkers have suffered as a result of the Cablevision / Fox fight, Gillbrand has kept her silence. Why? The appointed Senator relies on Cablevision to help fund her campaign. Already, Gillibrand has pocketed $41,700 in contributions from the company and its executives.

–

Comment from Tom Kise, People for DioGuardi spokesperson:

“Gillibrand’s silence has been bought and paid for by the people of Cablevision. While New Yorkers pleaded for her to interject and speak on their behalf during this Cablevision / Fox debacle, Gillibrand has remained noticeably silent. We can’t allow special interests to rule New York any longer.”

“ I urge Cable Vision and Fox to sit down with a neutral party and reach a workable solution for both parties. New Yorkers must not be punished because these organizations cannot come to a reasonable solution in a reasonable timeframe.”

WATCH SEN. JOHN MCCAIN HERE: http://bit.ly/9l3Jlf

Dear friends,

November 2nd is quickly approaching, and it’s time to make a final push to elect strong Republican leaders to Congress – leaders who won’t hesitate to say ‘No’ to spending money that we don’t have. I am not afraid to push back against reckless spending, job-killing legislation, and government overreach.

My friend Senator John McCain was kind enough to make a plea on my behalf – a plea to help me raise $51,000 in order to spread the message of cutting government spending, jump-starting job creation, and reducing our national debt. Watch his message here.

I’m running for the United States Senate against Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed to fill the remainder of Hillary Clinton’s term. Just a few months ago, the Democrats believed they had that seat locked up. The Democrats were wrong.

Public polls have shown that I have a real shot at taking this seat – a shot at being the 51st Republican vote in the United States Senate. But I need your help (donate: http://http://bit.ly/aATooO ) to raise $51,000 for the 51st vote by Wednesday, October 20th. We have collected $46,439 so far. Please go towww.JoinJoe2010.com and help put me over the top today – $100, $50, or whatever you can give.

As a profession Certified Public Accountant, I know how to balance a budget. And as a former Congressman, I introduced and passed legislation to make sure the government budgeting process had proper oversight.

I’m a tough fiscal hawk who’s not afraid to stand up to the reckless spenders in both parties. Please – Join Senator John McCain in supporting my candidacy and contribute http://http://bit.ly/aATooO to my campaign today so we can fight to bring fiscal sanity back to the United States Senate.

Sincerely,

Joe

FACT: Despite the claims in her ad, Gillibrand voted to give herself a raise . Americans can’t do that, why should she?

Comment from Tom Kise, People for DioGuardi spokesperson:

“Gillibrand has once again lied to voters. She gave herself a raise, plain and simple. Clearly, New Yorkers cannot trust what Gillibrand says or puts in her ads. She has lied about her past, hidden her legal work from constituents, and flip-flopped on nearly every issue that matters to New Yorkers. Her views evolve depending on the audience she is trying to appease. This is not an individual that voters can put their trust in.”

–

Evidence:

Just Last Year, Senator Gillibrand Voted To Kill Legislation To End Automatic Pay Raises For Members Of Congress. (S.Amdt. 621 to H.R. 1105, RC Vote #95: Failed: 52 – 45, 3/10/09,www.senate.gov, Gillibrand Voted Yea)

Dear friends,

Just a few months ago, conventional wisdom was that New York’s Senate seat – once occupied by Hillary Clinton – would safely be held by Democrats. Conventional wisdom was wrong.

Five public polls later, people have realized that this Senate seat is not only in play, but that it could be the 51st Republican vote in the United States Senate. 51 votes against job-killing legislation. 51 votes against runaway government spending. And 51 votes against an unsustainable national debt.

I’m humbly asking for your help today to raise $51,000 for the 51st vote by October 20th. Click here, http://bit.ly/aATooO , to show your support by donating $51 or whatever you can give. With your help, we can bring transparency back to Washington.

As a Certified Public Accountant, I understand what it takes to balance the books and stop out-of-control spending. And as a former Congressman, I have a record of promoting fiscal accountability and reform.

Join with me and my friends – author and radio host Michael Reagan, conservative blog RedState, and author and media commentator Dick Morris – in standing up for fiscal responsibility, for job creation, and for a balanced budget. Tell Washington their reckless spending has pushed us to the brink of economic disaster. Please watch the video below to see Michael Reagan endorse me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Bd_3m2Ymic

Let’s send an unmistakable message, http://bit.ly/aATooO , to those in Congress who vote time and again to mortgage our future by passing legislation that we simply can’t afford: give $51 for the 51st vote in guarding the American Dream.

FACT: As Joe DioGuardi explained during Friday’s WABC debate, Gillibrand has transformed from “Annie Oakley to someone different.” Gillibrand went from having a 100 percent rating by the NRA to apologizing for not leading the fight against the Second Amendment in a matter of moments.

Comment from Tom Kise, People for DioGuardi spokesperson:

“Clearly, Gillibrand will stop at nothing to get elected – or appointed. To get elected, she sold herself as pro-Second Amendment, but to get appointed by Gov. Paterson, however, she flipped, becoming a leader against the right to bear arms. She tells New Yorkers she wants transparency. She tells New Yorkers she believes in honest leadership. She doesn’t practice what she preaches though.”

–

Evidence:

“Gillibrand Declared Herself ‘Very Pro-Second Amendment,’ And Noted That She Comes ‘From A Hunting Family.’ Her Mother, Polly Rutnik, Shoots A Thanksgiving Turkey Almost Every Year, Gillibrand Said.” (Jennifer A. Dlouhy, “Will Gillibrand Shift On Guns?” Times Union, 1/27/09)

“As A Member Of The House, [Gillibrand] Had Earned A 100 Percent Rating From The National Rifle Association.” (“Gillibrand Gun Flap Raises Some Eyebrows,” The Associated Press, 2/17/09)

In The Fall Of 2008, Gillibrand Opposed “Any Federal Effort To Restrict The Ownership Of Semiautomatic Weapons Or To Limit The Sale Of So-Called ‘Cop Killer’ Bullets That Can Pierce Armored Vests Worn By Law Enforcement Officers.” ”Democratic Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand of Hudson and Republican challenger Sandy Treadwell of Lake Placid were asked during separate interviews for their positions on some of the major issues discussed by Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain in their presidential campaigns. … Both candidates say they strongly support the Second Amendment right to bear arms. They oppose any federal effort to restrict the ownership of semiautomatic weapons or to limit the sale of so-called ‘cop killer’ bullets that can pierce armored vests worn by law enforcement officers.” (Brian Tumulty, “Gillibrand, Treadwell On The Issues,” Gannett News Service , 10/23/08)

“In 2007, She Had Co-Sponsored The Renewal Of Legislation Requiring The Federal Government To Delete Information Learned From Handgun Background Checks After 24 Hours. Shortly After Being Named Senator, She Voted To Repeal That Provision.” (Stephen Rodrick, “The Reintroduction Of Kirsten Gillibrand,” New York Magazine, 6/15/09)

And Despite Pushing To Make Permanent The Tiahrt Amendments As A Representative For NY-20, Sen. Gillibrand Now Supports The Repeal Of The Amendments. ”Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand made her turnaround on a key gun-control issue official this week: She signed a letter seeking repeal of the NRA-backed Tiahrt Amendments, even though she sought to make them permanent just last June. The letter, made public yesterday, asks Attorney General Eric Holder for his support for the repeal of Tiahrt, an appropriations bill amendment that since 2003 has restricted use of federal gun-trace data.” (Tom Brune, “Sign Of Shift In Gun Stance,” Newsday [New York], 2/26/09)

Shortly After Being Appointed To The Senate, Gillibrand Apologized For Not Leading The Fight Against Guns. ”Meanwhile, though she continues to insist she supports ‘hunters’ rights,’ Gillibrand – formerly an aggressive Second Amendment supporter – apologized yesterday for not being ‘a leader’ in fighting gun violence.” (Editorial, “Flip-Flopping With Kirsten,” The New York Post , 2/10/09)

In Her First Senate Vote On Guns, She Voted Against A Measure To Expand Gun Rights In Washington, D.C. ”In her first vote on the issue since being appointed to the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., on Thursday voted to reject a measure that would expand gun rights. … Before passing the D.C. vote measure, the Senate voted 62-36 to adopt an amendment that would expand gun rights in the nation’s capital. Gillibrand joined 32 other Democrats and the two independents who caucus with them in opposing the proposal. Gillibrand’s position was cheered by gun control supporters and seemed to mark a shift in her longtime stance as a firm supporter of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.” (Jennifer A. Dlouhy, “Gillibrand Backs Gun Control Bill,” The Albany Times-Union , 2/27/09)

Shortly After Her Appointment In January 2009, Gillibrand Met With New Yorkers Against Gun Violence And The President Of The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence. Gillibrand met with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence on February 18, 2009, and Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, on March 4, 2009. (Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Website,http://gillibrand.senate.gov/newsroom/schedule/, Accessed 10/10/10)
